Cohort 2 January Training Week

CDT Cohort 2 with Responsible Research and Innovation course leads

Students engaging with Prof Raymond Bond’s workshop

Last week UCL welcomed Cohort 2 students from Ulster University for the second training week of 2025/26. The Centre aims to bring together students from both partnered institutions for cohort building and core training over 4 compulsory training weeks across the academic year - with each institution hosting partnered students on a rotational basis. With UCL students and colleagues travelling to Belfast in early November for the inaugural CDT conference, last week was an opportunity for UCL to host students from UU for a week of training activity.

On the first day, students participated in Responsible Research and Innovation training hosted by Dr Cian O'Donovan and his team from the UCL Centre for Responsible Innovation. The UCL Centre for Responsible Innovation provides RI-focused training and workshops for doctoral students across EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) in UCL and beyond. The course provides approximately 20 hours of online self-paced study spread over 6 weeks complemented by a workshop component for 2 hours, led by the Centre Director.

On Day 2, students were welcomed to the Science Museum for a day long workshop on Public Engagement, hosted by Karen Davies (Head of Learning Research and Resources) and Beth Hawkins (Science Museum Academy Manager). The session aims to demystify the process of creating engaging content and support participants to develop and deliver tailored events and experiences for a public audience. This training workshop received excellent feedback last year so we were happy to provide the same opportunity to the 2025/26 cohort.

Finally on Thursday 15th January UCL welcomed Ulster University co-investigator Prof Raymond Bond to give a 3 hour workshop on "AI, data science and ethics: A guide for digital health researchers", completing the third tech4health themed workshop for this intake of researchers.

We are looking forward to welcoming students from Belfast back to London in February for another jam packed week of training and cohort activities.
