Project Title: Development and Optimisation of Laser-Induced Graphene Force Sensors for Integration into Multimaterial Surgical Phantom Models
Supervisors: Professor Manish K Tiwari & Professor Dimitrios Siassakos
I am a PhD student within the Nanoengineered Systems Lab (NSL) and the UCL Hawkes Institute, where my research focuses on the development and integration of force sensors into multimaterial phantom models for surgical teaching and training.
I completed my BEng at King’s College London in Biomedical Engineering, where my final year thesis involved the design and fabrication of an anatomically and mechanically accurate head and brain model to assess the performance of an intraoperative hyperspectral imaging device.
Following this, I completed my MSc at University College London in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. I carried out my research project at NSL where I investigated how viscoelastic-viscoelastic interactions between the finger and in-contact soft material influence pressure sensor readings for stiffness characterisation using a self-developed anatomical model of a finger.
My current PhD research focuses on the development and optimisation of laser-induced graphene (LIG)-based force sensors for integration into multimaterial surgical phantom models. By combining advanced sensor technologies with anatomically realistic phantoms, I aim to develop systems capable of accurately mapping applied forces for surgical teaching and training.
